Showers Most of the Week; Mid 60's by Thursday

Published: 3.25.18 7:38am

Good Morning Folks! Clouds will linger throughout the day with isolated showers possible, but for the most part it will be a gray and chilly end to the weekend. Temps do warm as we move through the upcoming week, however it will take some time to break into the 60’s, perhaps as late as Wednesday. Monday through Thursday keeps rain lingering across the region, with isolated shower coverage Monday and Tuesday, ramping up to scattered Wednesday and widespread by Thursday. This of course is if the passing cold front slated for Thursday holds to that day, instead of shifting to Friday as other models suggest. Either way the week ahead will feature partly – mostly cloudy skies each afternoon, alongside isolated to scattered showers, however temps across the valleys rise from the low 50’s Monday to the mid 60’s by Thursday! Overnight lows follow suit and dip below freezing tonight but eventually climb out of the 30’s and settle into the mid 40’s – low 50’s by week’s end. All in all, we are still trying to climb out of winter with the week ahead featuring below average temps, but warmer weather is only a week or two out.

Clouds and light showers today will keep temps to the low – upper 40’s across the region, settling into the upper 20’s above 4000’ and only cooling off to the low 30’s for the valleys. The best chance for rain will be along the ridgelines, however all of SW NC is in play today, with light drizzle lingering into the overnight hours.

Cold air damming will continue tomorrow across the Carolinas, however as with most CAD setups our region will not be as affected due to our beloved Great Balsams and Southern Highlands Plateau. Temps tomorrow will push into the low 40’s – low 50’s depending upon elevation, under passing clouds and perhaps a light shower or two along the escarpment. Past sunset isolated shower coverage increases and lingers into Tuesday with temps dipping into the mid 30’s – low 40’s.

Tuesday through Thursday provides our region with on and off showers, ramping up in coverage as the week moves along and peaking either late Thursday or early Friday. This peak in coverage is due to a passing front and seeing how we are 4 – 5 days out, this timeline is likely to change. Temps rise from the upper 40’s – mid 50’s Tuesday to the low 50’s – mid 60’s Thursday, setting up a classic spring weekend with clearing skies possibly overhead by Saturday.

Overall, rain for most of the week but the silver lining will be warming temps as we move out of the 40’s tomorrow and reach the mid 60’s by the end of the week! ENJOY!
