Some Cooler Weather Arrives After Sunday's Rain

Published: 2.23.18 3:00pm

Good Afternoon Folks! We’re enjoying another toasty afternoon with temps hitting the mid 70’s under passing clouds out of the southwest. Clouds will fill in a bit tomorrow later in the day with showers developing before sunset, however coverage should remain isolated until Sunday midday and then become scattered, eventually filling in region wide overnight into Monday. Temps Saturday rise to the low 70’s and cool off Sunday and Monday to the upper 60’s and then low 60’s, eventually bottoming out to the upper 50’s by Wednesday as cooler but still well above average temps return to the region.

The weekend looks pleasant for the most part considering we are in a pretty active pattern as of late, with showers developing later in the day Saturday, prompting many of us to get outside or do some yardwork before the rain sets up shop Sunday. Sunday won’t be a washout but a half inch up to an inch is possible Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, mainly due to a front sweeping across the region; hence the cooler air as we finally begin to break down the mega upper level ridge that has caused this warm outbreak across the eastern portion of the nation. Temps Saturday will reach the upper 60’s, dip to the mid - upper 50’s Saturday night and climb only to the low 60’s Sunday for the lower elevations. The ridgelines will not be too far off as they only reach the upper 50’s Saturday and low 50’s Monday, with temps finally dipping into the mid 30’s Monday night as clear skies prevail (upper 30’s – low 40’s elsewhere Monday night).

Tuesday offers up sunshine but rains return Wednesday and lingers into Thursday, with temps gradually returning to the mid – upper 60’s for the lower elevations.

We’ll do another update Monday but for those looking for colder weather, it looks as if we’ll see a return to some form of winter in the next few weeks as the mid – long range models hint at an upper level trough across the eastern portion of the nation. ENJOY!
