Above Normal Temps through the Weekend

Published: 11.28.17 10:47am

Good Morning Folks! We had a decent temperature inversion this morning across the region with Mt. Mitchell dipping to 41°F, while the low elevation towns such as Cullowhee and Sylva bottomed out to 21°F. Sunshine will correct this imbalance and bring temps to a handful of degrees above the seasonal norm today, with sunshine rolling into tomorrow for most of the day. Moisture will return to the region Thursday, prompting clouds to develop and then light showers late in the day, wrapping up before sunrise on Friday. This weekend looks quiet with a slight chance for increasing clouds or a light shower, but for now we are sticking with a dry forecast till more confidence is gained regarding the models. All in all, the next 5 – 7 days will feature temps slightly above normal and for those wishing for colder weather, it may be another week or so as the short and mid term outlooks keep us dry and warm across the Southeast.

Today and tomorrow will provide us with ample sunshine and temps rising to the low 50’s – low 60’s depending upon elevation, possibly hitting the mid 60’s across the deeper valleys tomorrow afternoon. Some clouds are likely around sunset Wednesday with clouds increasing overnight into Thursday. With clear skies overhead tonight another temperature inversion is likely, as temps dip into the upper 20’s-  low 30’s across the valley but only settle into the mid – upper 30’s across the higher elevations. The increasing clouds over Wednesday night will cap temps to the upper 30’s – low 40’s for most of the region.

Partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies are likely Thursday with light showers arriving around sunset and wrapping up before sunrise on Friday. Sunshine then returns Friday and hangs around through the weekend, with temps pretty much flatlined to the upper 40’s – low 60’s each afternoon, however overnight lows do show some variability with each passing night. Temps Thursday night hold to the low 40’s for all of SW NC but dip to the upper 30’s – low 40’s Friday night and then mid 30’s – low 40’s Saturday as drier air moves back into the region.

Overall, quiet this week with a light shower or two Thursday night but otherwise expect sunny skies and temps a handful of degrees above average through the weekend. ENJOY!
