Temps Cool to Below Normal Levels by Friday

Published: 11.6.17 8:09am

Good Morning Folks! Light to moderate showers are expected to move through the region this morning but it won’t be a washout and if you didn’t grab the umbrella or rain jacket when heading out the door, you should be fine. We’ll experience another round of showers later tonight, extending into Tuesday morning, with another round arriving Wednesday afternoon. This Wednesday round should extend into Thursday morning, with clearing skies past midday. This sets up Friday to wrap up the work and school week with sunshine overhead, however this won’t last long as moisture slowly builds up this weekend, allowing showers to develop late Sunday. Temps all the while will go from the low 60’s – low 70’s today to the mid 40’s – upper 50’s Friday, however sub freezing temps will be hard to come by as this weekend provides a slight uptick in temps heading into Sunday. Cataloochee could make snow Friday night but it would be all for not as showers and warmer temps move in roughly 36 hours after they would make snow. With this in mind it will be another week till we can talk about snowmaking weather and perhaps another 1.5 weeks (or longer) till they open (bummer).

Showers moving in this morning will be light – moderate and coverage will be isolated throughout the event, so don’t expect much (tenth of an inch at best). Cloudy skies will likely linger throughout the day, however with a westerly wind across the region, temps will be able to push into the low 60’s – low 70’s depending upon elevation. Temps dip back into the low – mid 50’s tonight under cloudy skies and by the pre dawn hours on Tuesday, showers should move back into the region.

Tuesday through Thursday will be damp, maybe soggy at times but we don’t expect a washout so don’t fret if you leave your rain jacket at home for the day, although we still recommend it through Thursday morning. Showers return late tonight and wind down sometime Tuesday early afternoon, but pick back up Wednesday afternoon, winding by midday Thursday. Most of the region will pick up a half inch or so of rain over the next few days, so nothing to write home about and the only exciting part will be cooling temps as we move through the week. Temps Tuesday climb to the upper 50’s – upper 60’s and cool down to the upper 40’s – upper 50’s Thursday. Overnight lows will also decline, starting out in the low – mid 50’s tonight, eventually settling into the low – upper 30’s by the end of the week.

Sunshine Friday will give way to increasing clouds Saturday and by Sunday it looks like showers will return to the region, but it won’t be anything to fret over, although it might keep most of us from working outside.

Overall, damp most of the week with declining temps but for most of us, we’ll remain above the freezing mark with temps roughly 8 – 10 degrees below normal by the end of the week. ENJOY!
