Muggy Today with a Somewhat Dry Setup Thursday/Friday

Published: 10.11.17 11:07am

Good Morning Folks! We picked up another tenth of an inch for parts of the region, falling well short of the quarter- half inch we forecasted. This leads us to wind down the shower activity today as we went from scattered to isolated shower coverage, with temps above normal and when coupled with high humidity levels, it will be another muggy day across the mountains. Thursday offers up some sunshine, yet temps remain warm and clouds slide overhead Friday as we transition to a NE flow setup, allowing moisture to bank against the escarpment. Clouds may linger into Saturday and although shower chances show up on other forecast outlets, we have kept most of the region dry as we don’t see a strong NE flow that would overcome the Great Balsams or the escarpment. By Sunday sunshine returns but it will be short lived as a front swings through Monday, which will finally bring temps down to normal levels as we go from the upper 70’s – low 80’s today to the upper 60’s – low 70’s Monday (for the lower elevations). All in all, we’ll go from muggy conditions today to simply warm and dry by Friday, eventually returning to normal weather for mid October by Monday.

Partly sunny skies will give way at times to partly cloudy skies, but for the most part there will be more clouds than sun overhead today. Isolated showers are possible throughout the day and temps will push into the upper 60’s – low 80’s depending upon elevation. Tonight, temps will dip into the upper 50’s – mid 60’s under partly cloudy skies and fog across the lower elevations.

Thursday provides us with mostly sunny skies, sending temps back to the upper 60’s – low 80’s but we’ll cool down to the mid 60’s – upper 70’s Friday and Saturday as clouds slide overhead due to the NE flow that will setup late Thursday night. Isolated showers are possible Friday but for now we are going with a dry forecast Saturday for the majority of the region. If you are going to the WCU Football game at 3:30pm we recommend dressing for mid August weather (shorts, t shirts and sandals) as temps will be around 78°F by kickoff, cooling off to the low 70’s by games end. Overnight lows will trend downward from the mid 50’s – low 60’s Thursday night to the low – mid 50’s by Saturday night as dry air begins to filter into the region.

Sunday into the early part of next week will feature sunshine Sunday and then cloudy skies with scattered showers late Monday, lasting into Tuesday. This rain event will be light but the exciting part will be the cooler temps as we go from the mid 60’s – upper 70’s Sunday to the upper 50’s – low 70’s Monday.

Overall, muggy today, warm tomorrow and then more clouds to help cool temps down a bit Friday and Saturday, with sunshine Sunday and then showers Monday into Tuesday. ENJOY!
