Temps Above Average this Week

Published: 7.17.17 8:13am

Good Morning Folks! We picked up another decent amount of rain over the past 24 hours with parts of the region not experiencing any rain, while other (isolated) areas picked up 1.5 – 2.25”. This high variability doesn’t allow for a region wide average but for the most part the southernmost section of the area picked up a half inch of rain, with the highest total near the Brevard Hospital at 2.44”. We won’t see rainfall totals like this for 5 – 7 days as we deal with passing showers today but then a dry and hot stretch of weather sets up Tuesday into Saturday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are certainly possible each afternoon but for the most part it will be sunny and hot across the region, with temps pushing a few degrees above normal.

Today will bring us mostly sunny skies before midday (valley fog till the mid morning hours) and then a round of showers past midday, developing sometime during the mid afternoon hours. We don’t think showers will be as strong as the past few days, but we do expect a quarter – half inch in spots with heavy downpours a possibility. Temps will rise to the low 70’s – mid 80’s depending upon elevation and then dip into the low – mid 60’s tonight, under partly cloudy skies past sunset.

Tuesday through Thursday keeps more sun than cloud cover overhead and rain chances will be minimal at best and confined to the highest ridgelines. Expect sunny skies to push temps from the low 70’s – mid 80’s Tuesday to the mid 70’s – upper 80’s Thursday. Overnight lows will follow suit, rising from the low – mid 60’s Tuesday night to the mid – upper 60’s Thursday night, even with mostly clear skies overhead.

Friday into the weekend features a return to normal for mid – late July as moisture streams back into the Southeast, setting up isolated showers and thunderstorms for just about anywhere across SW NC. Temps will remain in the mid 70’s – upper 80’s Friday and Saturday, possibly cooling down a few degrees by Sunday.

Overall, typical mid summer heat coming tomorrow afternoon a handful of showers today, then more showers developing this weekend, although nothing to cancel plans over. ENJOY!
