Another Round of Showers Develop Monday Afternoon

Published: 7.16.17 7:17am

Good Morning Folks! We picked up a decent amount of rain yesterday as storms rolled across the region, with a half inch or more across the area over the past 24 hours. A handful of locations reached the one inch mark and Lake Toxaway in particular picked up the highest amount at 2.48”, living up to its title as one of the wettest spots in NC and the Southeast. We’ll enjoy a slight reprieve in shower coverage today, however a front approaches the region Monday and this will fire up afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Once this front clears the region, dry and warmer weather sets up across the south, keeping sunshine overhead Tuesday through Thursday. This setup will break down by the end of the work week and this will translate to isolated showers and thunderstorms Friday into next weekend. Temps all the while will go from slightly below normal to normal today and Monday to normal then above normal temps Tuesday into Friday.

We round out the weekend with temps hitting the low 70’s – mid 80’s depending upon elevation and showers developing past midday, although coverage will be much smaller than yesterday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms develop today and mainly focus their efforts along or near the SC state line, while the rest of us across SW NC enjoy passing clouds. Tonight temps dip into the low – mid 60’s once again under partly cloudy skies.

Monday brings us another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours and some of these could be heavy downpours, however severe storm chances seem to be at a minimum. Most of the region will pick up a half inch or more of rain through the day with temps only reaching the low 70’s – mid 80’s depending upon elevation, dipping into the upper 50’s – mid 60’s overnight into Tuesday as dry air moves into the region.

Tuesday through Thursday keep mostly sunny skies overhead and although this is welcomed by many, temps will rise from the mid 70’s – mid 80’s Tuesday to the mid 70’s – upper 80’s Thursday, setting up a muggy end and warm end to the work week.

Overall, pop up showers today, scattered showers tomorrow and then sunshine Tuesday through Thursday, with isolated showers returning Friday. ENJOY!
