Scattered Showers Thursday through Saturday

Published: 7.12.17 10:21am

Good Morning Folks! We had a few showers but one strong thunderstorm that developed yesterday afternoon, dumping 1.40” over Lake Toxaway, whereas the rest of the region didn’t pick up but a tenth of an inch in isolated locations. Today will feature a slight increase in shower and thunderstorm coverage, increasing further tomorrow, waning slightly on Friday but then coming right back Saturday with a line of thunderstorms past midday. Sunday and Monday seem to keep shower chances around, but there looks to be a reprieve in the excessive moisture stream into the region, possibility setting up more sunshine than clouds. We still recommend keeping your outdoor plans this weekend, just plan on dodging passing showers and thunderstorms Saturday around 3 – 5pm. All in all, temps will be in the low 70’s – upper 80’s and when coupled with excessive moisture levels, it will be a muggy and slightly oppressive end to the work week.

Sunshine starts our day and fog has taken till the mid morning hours to clear out but this plentiful sunshine will translate to partly cloudy skies this afternoon as showers develop. Coverage still favors the ridgelines and perhaps the valleys if they migrate overhead, but for the most part it seems the escarpment will be another maximum in terms of rainfall totals. Temps will push into the low 70’s – upper 80’s this afternoon, noticeably muggy in towns like Franklin, Sylva or Waynesville and although this is not comfortable, always remember our neighbors in the piedmont will be much hotter (mid 90’s in Charlotte). Overnight lows dip into the low – mid 60’s under partly cloudy skies with afternoon showers fizzling out by the mid evening hours.

Thursday through Saturday will be our wettest period this week as scattered showers develop tomorrow with high and thin clouds past midday, followed by pop up light – moderate showers Friday and then a line of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon. This line of storms is brought about by a cold front pushing into the region, possibly stalling nearby for the next few days and if this occurs, then more clouds will be overhead than currently forecasted for Sunday. Temps hit the mid 70’s – upper 80’s Thursday and Friday and cool off slightly to the low 70’s – mid 80’s Saturday due to more cloud cover and heavy rainfall, with overnight lows generally in the mid 60’s each night.

Sunday and Monday bring us isolated shower coverage and a possible reduction in humidity levels, but as of right now we are calling for mostly sunny – partly cloudy skies and temps in the low 70’s – mid 80’s.

Overall, muggy, hot and wet at times today through Saturday, with a possible clearing late this weekend into early next week. ENJOY!
