Pop Up Showers Today through Saturday

Published: 5.18.17 8:19am

Good Morning Folks! Clouds will continue to be on and off throughout the day as moisture begins to build across the region today through early next week, peaking Sunday night with widespread showers across the area. Isolated showers are likely today and tomorrow, perhaps more so Saturday along the escarpment while the rest of the region enjoys passing clouds and by Sunday we should be back in the soupy mix as a front approaches from the west. Scattered to widespread showers move in Sunday afternoon and evening, exiting the region Monday morning and by next Tuesday we should have sunny skies back overhead. Temps today will be a handful of degrees above normal as they push into the low 70’s – low 80’s depending upon elevation, leveling out till Sunday as cooler air moves in with the front and by Tuesday we should notice temps returning to normal levels.

Passing clouds this morning will give way to sunshine before noon and then more clouds develop this afternoon as moisture begins to build across the region from the south and west. Temps will push into the low 70’s – low 80’s this afternoon and when combined with increasing moisture, it will feel muggy in the sun. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon, more so for the ridgelines as we tap into daytime heating to take advantage of the available instability. Showers wind down this evening under partly cloudy skies and temps will settle into the upper 50’s – low 60’s once again.

Friday and Saturday bring us two more rounds of afternoon pop up showers, with coverage higher on Friday than Saturday as a weak front takes most of the day to move in Saturday. This front Saturday will not interact with our region but will influence the weather as we deal with higher shower coverage along the escarpment compared to the TN state line. Friday on the other hand will be a free for all, in that all of the region will be in play as showers tap into available moisture. Temps both days push into the upper 60’s – low 80’s, so right above normal for this time of the year, with overnight lows settling into the upper 50’s - low 60’s once again.

Sunday into Monday will be our wettest period as scattered to widespread showers move in from the west, exiting the region before midday Monday. Temps will be held to the mid 60’s – mid 70’s each afternoon, with Monday being our coldest day of the week and by Tuesday they return to the upper 70’s, so enjoy it while it last.

Overall, warm today through Saturday with pop up showers each afternoon and then widespread showers Sunday into Monday with temps much cooler, followed by sunshine next Tuesday. ENJOY!
