Short and Sweet; Sunshine and Above Average Temps

Published: 5.13.17 8:52am

Good Morning Folks! We didn’t pick as much rain as we had forecasted (half inch or more) as the 24 hour rainfall totals average out to a quarter inch across most of the region. Isolated showers are still moving across the region from the west to the east and the backend of the system is visible on the satellite imagery over in middle TN. This system will move out today and setup the region with sunny skies that will hang around from late this afternoon all the way into Wednesday of next week. Isolated showers and thunderstorms develop late next week, but for the most part the upcoming work week will be bone dry and quite hot at times.

Clouds should begin to thin out around the early afternoon hours and partly cloudy – mostly sunny skies are possible just before sunset, which is a few hours slower than the previous forecast, but still on track regarding the overall impact of the event. Temps will be held to the upper 50’s – low 70’s this afternoon and tonight temps will dip into the mid – upper 40’s under clearing skies.

The rest of the forecast is quite simple. It’s going to be dry, sunny and we’ll go from warm to hot in the course of a few days, saved by pop up showers or thunderstorms late next week that should cool things back down. Temps Sunday will hit the low 60’s – upper 70’s depending upon elevation and by the middle of next week, temps will soar to the low 70’s – mid 80’s depending upon elevation. Average high temps for this time of the year sit around the mid 70’s for the valleys with overnight lows in the low 50’s, so this upcoming hot weather will be roughly 10 – 12 degrees above average.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible Thursday and Friday but we’ll just keep it a mention at this point in time to allow the models more time to fine tune the late week output.

Overall, clearing skies today, sunny Sunday through Wednesday with temps going from normal to well above normal by the middle of next week. ENJOY!
