Clearing Skies Today; Upper 60's Next Week!!!

Published: 2.15.17 8:26am

Good Morning Folks! Temps are a degree or two above freezing across the higher elevations, while the valleys sit in the low 40’s. This happens quite a bit each winter in that the moisture exits before the meat of the cold air arrives, however we still believe it will snow along the TN line sometime this morning, just not as much in the way of accumulations. Breezy conditions set up shop this afternoon and continue into tomorrow, with cloud cover clearing sometime late this afternoon. Sunshine then dominates the landscape tomorrow and Friday, with an increase in cloud cover through the day Saturday (change from previous forecast). Showers are expected to develop late Saturday night but if the models are to be believed it will be a light rain event, with no wintry precip across the higher elevations. In fact, temps warm up even further Sunday into Monday as they reach the mid – upper 60’s under another round of sunshine (where has our winter gone too). All in all, showers this morning, breezy conditions tomorrow and then the increasing temps late this weekend will make up most of the action over the next six days.

We picked up much more rain than forecasted as most of the region is either right under or slightly over the half inch mark (a quarter inch more than forecasted), with Balsam Gap in particular picking up 0.71”. Showers continue their march eastward this morning and through the morning hours we’ll notice cloud cover beginning to thin a bit and by the mid afternoon hours most of the region should be under partly cloudy – mostly sunny skies. Temps will essentially hold to the morning lows with only a few degree rise through the day, peaking to the upper 30’s – upper 40’s depending upon elevation. Overnight lows dip into the low – upper 20’s with westerly winds around 10 – 20mph.

We increased daily highs a handful of degrees for Thursday and Friday after the new model runs and the warmth this weekend still is on the table, in fact we’ll see temps in the mid 60’s Sunday and upper 60’s Monday! Temps Thursday will be near normal as they push into the low 40’s – low 50’s tomorrow and then rise to the low 50’s – low 60’s Friday (another dose of low 60’s Saturday). All of this will occur under mostly sunny skies with a light rain event possible late Saturday night, but nothing more than a quarter inch is expected.

Overall, breezy and chilly today, a bit warmer tomorrow but still chilly and then we turn up the heat Friday through Monday. ENJOY!
